Issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the arrival of the new millennium, this 2000 Great Britain Five Pound Crown features an innovative design centered on time, Greenwich, and Britain's transition into the 21st century. This example remains housed in its original Royal Mint Millennium presentation packaging, making it an attractive complete collectible.

The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, introduced on British coinage in 1998, surrounded by the monarch's legend and the date 2000.

The reverse, designed by Jeffery Matthews and modeled by Royal Mint engraver Robert Evans, depicts the British Isles incorporated into a clock face. The clock hands are pivoted on Greenwich and point to twelve o'clock, symbolizing the transition from 1999 into 2000. The dates 1999 and 2000 flank the design, while ANNO DOMINI and FIVE POUNDS complete the composition. The edge carries the Shakespearean inscription “WHAT'S PAST IS PROLOGUE.”

Struck in cupro-nickel to a Brilliant Uncirculated finish, this large-format £5 Crown weighs 28.28 grams and measures 38.61 mm in diameter.
